Everyone can agree that things are really cooking when talented newcomer Brent Canter unleashes his 2011 album "Urgency of Now.” Using a wide array of styles and sounds, this gifted guitarist makes a clear statement of intent with both his stunning musicianship and his amazing collection of original compositions. Canter makes a strong debut showing on a date that also features the genius of tenor saxophone sensation Seamus Blake, the explosive metrics of drummer Jordan Perlson, and the combined harmonic sensibilities of organists Pat Bianchi and Adam Klipple in supporting roles. More importantly, while the music is certainly straight ahead with some hard swinging highlights, Canter's "Urgency of Now" is also eminently lyrical and exceptionally evocative of a modern jazz sensibility throughout.
