Ben Wolfe
Bassist Ben Wolfe releases his sixth album as a bandleader, The Whisperer (Posi-Tone, 2015), featuring a dynamic quartet with saxophonist Stacy Dillard, pianist Orrin Evans, and drummer Donald Edwards. The album highlights a cohesive ensemble approach, emphasizing group interplay over extended solos.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Portland, Oregon, Wolfe has built a distinguished career performing with jazz luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., Diana Krall, and Dianne Reeves. Early on, he formed a duo with Connick Jr., recording over a dozen albums and soundtracks, and serving as Connick’s musical director during several world tours. Subsequently, Wolfe joined the Wynton Marsalis Septet and became a key member of Diana Krall’s touring band, contributing to many recordings including her Grammy-winning When I Look In Your Eyes.
As a member of The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), Wolfe has performed with greats like Joe Henderson, Doc Cheatham, Jon Hendricks, Harry “Sweets” Edison, and Billy Higgins. His extensive recording credits also include work with Branford Marsalis, James Moody, Eric Reed, Carl Allen, and Benny Green.
When not touring and recording, Ben Wolfe serves on the faculty at The Juilliard School in New York City, sharing his expertise with the next generation of jazz musicians.
