Dan Pratt
"Besides being one of the most tremendous new saxophonists around today, Dan Pratt is also evolving as quite an exciting composer as well. He's the complete package." —Christian McBride
Saxophonist and composer Dan Pratt continues to impress audiences with his dynamic sound, gifted compositional skills, and strong bandleader presence. His latest Posi-Tone release, Toe The Line, showcases the energy, groove, and deep musical connection of his acclaimed organ quartet.
Pratt began his musical journey in Saratoga, California, starting as a classical baritone saxophonist before being drawn to jazz on the tenor saxophone. He attended Berklee College of Music, graduating with honors in 1997 after studying performance and composition with world-class mentors.
After moving to New York City in 1999, Pratt quickly established himself as a formidable voice on the tenor saxophone. In 2001, he was selected for the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute at Jazz Aspen Snowmass, where he studied and performed with jazz greats including Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, Brian Blade, Benny Green, and Joshua Redman.
Upon returning to New York, Pratt formed the Dan Pratt Organ Quartet, featuring Alan Ferber on trombone, Jared Gold on Hammond organ, and Mark Ferber on drums. Known for their daring interplay, sophisticated compositions, and undeniable swing, the group has become a staple of the New York jazz scene and tours regularly in support of Toe The Line.
Now based in Brooklyn, Pratt continues to refine his craft as a performer, composer, and arranger, bringing his unique voice to every project and solidifying his place among today’s most exciting modern jazz artists.
