Doug Webb
Tenor saxophonist Doug Webb remains a highly sought-after figure in the Los Angeles film and television music scene, boasting over 30 years of experience and more than 500 recordings to his credit. In the past decade, Webb has also focused on his work as a bandleader and jazz artist, releasing several critically acclaimed albums on Posi-Tone. His latest project, The Message (2022), revisits the acclaimed three-horn frontline format first explored on Triple Play (2015). The album features an exceptional lineup including Greg Osby (alto saxophone), Bob Reynolds (tenor saxophone), Brian Charette (organ), and Charles Ruggiero (drums).
The Message marks Webb’s 11th release as a leader on Posi-Tone, following a series of star-studded albums such as Apples & Oranges (2020), Fast Friends (2018), Bright Side (2016), Back East (2015), Triple Play (2015), Another Scene(2013), Swing Shift (2011), Last Trane To Georgia (2011), Renovations (2010), and Midnight (2010).
Raised in California, Webb began clarinet studies at age eight and expanded to saxophone and flute by fifteen. After earning a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, he returned to Southern California and quickly became an in-demand saxophonist for television, film, and recording projects.
Throughout his illustrious career, Webb has performed and recorded with legends such as Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Horace Tapscott, Billy Higgins, Stanley Clarke, Quincy Jones, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, Kenny Rogers, Bonnie Raitt, and many more. He was a longstanding member of Doc Severinsen’s big band for 15 years and Bill Holman’s big band for 20 years. Webb’s saxophone solos are featured in countless movies and TV shows, including Family Guy, American Dad, and films like Minions, The Wolverine, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Jersey Boys, and Gran Torino.
