It’s time for another release in the visionary series of curated musical delights from producer Marc Free. For this second volume of the group Idle Hands, he’s again enlisted trusted Posi-Tone musicians to helm the musical ship. "Get A Grip" features a focused musical program of succinct performances deliberately intended to provide listeners with a strong handhold on the straight forward musical aesthetics and operational ethos employed by Posi-Tone Records.
Will Bernard - Guitarist Will Bernard has participated in a host of boundary stretching groups throughout his storied 30-plus year career, ranging from jazz, soul jazz and world music to experimental music, hip-hop, and funk, with many stops in between. Having credits with some of the best in the business in tow, here he brings his wisdom and musical sensibility to enlighten us with profound tonal statements and world-class rhythm.
Behn Gillece (gill-ēs) - Growing up in New Jersey, vibraphonist Behn Gillece has played many nights in the entertaining cities of New York and Philadelphia. His recorded output is large for such a young musician, as he has six albums as a leader on Posi-Tone, four as co-leader with label mate Ken Fowser, and appears on many others as a band member or side musician. Named DownBeat Rising Star for Vibraphone in 2018, Gillece has continually shown his skills as a composer with over a 100 published musical works to date.
Donny McCaslin - Donny McCaslin is best known as the saxophonist on David Bowie’s last album, Blackstar. The noted composer and bandleader has released over a dozen albums over his genre-defying, Grammy-nominated career. McCaslin is very a sought-after player and has toured and recorded with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Dave Douglas, Antonio Sanchez, and Art Hirahara, among many others.
Art Hirahara - Having earned the title of most recorded Posi-Tone artist, Hirahara is usually Free’s first call for the piano chair. Residing in New York for many years, he’s filled his resume with many outstanding musical credits and experiences, and has grown his sound over the course of many albums.
Boris Kozlov - Another veteran of the jazz community, Kozlov’s in-demand schedule has him leading the Mingus bands and playing with the who’s who of jazz. This award-winning bassist brings his wide range of mastery and years of world-class experiences to this band, while adding a solid foundation and many colorful nuances to the music.
EJ Strickland - Appearing on dozens of albums since his New School jazz education, Strickland is the in-demand drummer that enlightens every recording he appears on with his command of all types of jazz. He’s released his own music as a leader and regularly plays with some of the top names in jazz, like Ravi Coltrane, Lakecia Benjamin, ELEW, Cassandra Wilson, Terence Blanchard, and many others.
