New Faces
New Faces is a group conceptualized and brought together by producer Marc Free to showcase emerging jazz talent. The original ensemble first appeared in 2017 with the album Straight Forward. A new iteration of the group was formed in 2019 to record their latest release, New Sounds. The album features six outstanding musicians:
Brandon Lee – Raised in Houston, Texas, Lee was part of the inaugural jazz studies class at The Juilliard School in 2001. From 2009 to 2012, he was among the youngest faculty members at Juilliard’s jazz program. Lee has performed with many leading big bands and jazz orchestras and has recorded three albums as a leader. He taught at the Miles Davis Studies program at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, from 2013 to 2018. Lee currently lives in New York City.
Markus Howell – A New York City-based saxophonist, composer, and educator originally from Deerfield Beach, Florida. Howell is a recent graduate of Michigan State University. Despite a brief career, he has performed and recorded with many top jazz leaders and played major festivals and venues. His debut album Get Right! was released on Posi-Tone in 2019.
Nicole Glover – Saxophonist Nicole Glover began her professional career in Portland, Oregon, recording and performing with Grammy-winner Esperanza Spalding, multi-instrumentalist George Colligan, and drummer/educator Alan Jones. Since moving to New York City in 2015, she has toured and recorded with acclaimed artists worldwide. Glover is also a dedicated educator, currently on faculty at New York Jazz Workshop and teaching through the Jazz Empowers program.
Caili O’Doherty – Raised in Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of Berklee College of Music and Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, O’Doherty is an up-and-coming jazz pianist in New York. She released her debut album Padmein 2015 and performs extensively as a bandleader and sideman. O’Doherty works with Jazz at Lincoln Center’s education programs and has been on faculty at the Stanford Jazz Workshop and Litchfield Jazz Camp.
Adi Meyerson – Originally from Jerusalem, Israel, Meyerson moved to New York City in 2012 to study with bass masters such as Reggie Workman and Ron Carter. Her 2017 debut album Where We Stand highlighted her talents as both bassist and composer. Meyerson is active in education with Jazz at Lincoln Center and serves on the faculty of the Stanford Jazz Workshop.
Cory Cox – Drummer Cory Cox, a Houston native, attended the Brubeck Institute on a scholarship from Jason Moran and completed his undergraduate studies at The New School University. Cox has toured globally with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Reggie Workman. In 2015, he released his leader debut The Core. He currently resides in New York City, teaching privately and leading workshops at Stanford Jazz and Litchfield Jazz.
