Shauli Einav
Saxophonist Shauli Einav unleashes his big sound with his latest release Generations (Posi-Tone, 2013). The album features a well-balanced program of Einav's compelling original compositions alongside select covers, performed with flautist Itai Kriss, pianist Don Friedman (Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson), bassist Or Bareket, and drummer Eliot Zigmund (Bill Evans Trio).
Born in 1982 in the Israeli countryside, Einav began his musical journey on the violin at age four before switching to saxophone at thirteen, performing with several Jerusalem and Tel Aviv-based bands. In 1998, he was discovered by legendary American saxophonist Arnie Lawrence, who sought to bridge cultural divides through music and served as a mentor linking Einav to New York City’s jazz heritage.
Following his studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music & Dance, Einav moved to the United States to earn a Master’s degree from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. His accolades include two ASCAP Young Composer Awards, a Billy Joel Scholarship, Israel-American Culture Fund scholarships, and selection by the Israeli Ministry of Culture to represent Israel at the International Cité des Arts in Paris.
Einav’s recorded work includes Home Seek (2008), Opus One (Plus Loin, 2010), and A Truth About Me (Cristal, 2013), each demonstrating his evolution as a musician and composer and earning international critical praise. After seven productive years immersed in New York City’s vibrant jazz scene, Einav recently relocated to Paris, continuing to tour globally and compose thought-provoking music.
