Tom Tallitsch
Tenor saxophonist Tom Tallitsch is a versatile modern jazz artist whose talents extend beyond performance to composition and education. Leading his own band and continually expanding his creative voice, Tom’s latest release, Wheelhouse (Posi-Tone, 2018), marks his eighth album as a leader and showcases a dynamic quintet featuring frequent Posi-Tone collaborators Josh Lawrence (trumpet), Jon Davis (piano), Peter Brendler (bass), and Rudy Royston (drums). Wheelhouse offers an exciting program of all original compositions and is Tallitsch’s first recording to feature a trumpet player.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Tallitsch began his musical journey studying piano, clarinet, and saxophone. After earning a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, he has built an extensive discography with five albums on the Posi-Tone label alone.
Beyond his work as a performer, Tom is a dedicated composer with works performed nationally, including pieces featured by dancers from the Martha Graham Dance Company. He serves as musical director and composer for the multimedia dance company Big Sky Project, founded by his wife Carrie Ellmore-Tallitsch.
As a passionate educator, Tallitsch runs a successful music tutoring business in Princeton, NJ, and founded the Central NJ Homeschool Bands. He works as a piano tutor for students with autism at the Princeton Child Development Institute and has held faculty positions at Mercer County Community College, The Westminster Conservatory, and Philadelphia Clef Club, among others. He frequently gives lectures and clinics at top high schools and was formerly the host of “The Modern Jazz Radio Show” on WWFM.
Now residing in Montgomery, New Jersey, Tom Tallitsch continues to shape jazz through his multifaceted artistry and commitment to education.
